Empowering Welcoming Communities, Extending Hospitality to Newcomers, and Facilitating Direct Refugee Support

People find themselves refugees for many reasons, including war, conflict, political and religious persecution, as well as gender and sexual orientation. Every year, hundreds of refugees arrive in British Columbia courageously seeking to build a new life here. As they do so, we hope to empower and equip our communities to support them in ways that are both practical (for example, through Welcome Boxes) and interpersonal (for example, through extending hospitality). As our communities engage in welcome, we hope to enter into relationships of mutual transformation with newcomers, where we learn from and with one another as we all continue to make Canada home. Because our work depends on a broad base of support, we'd love your partnership.

* IMPORTANT NOTE: this work is run through First Christian Reformed Church of Vancouver, a registered charity, and therefore your confirmation will read "Thank you for your donation to First Christian Reformed Church." However, ALL donations given here will go directly to support this refugee ministry. Donations above $20.00 will be eligible for a tax receipt, and again, will appear as a donation to the registered charity mentioned above. If you'd prefer to write a cheque, it can be made out to "First Christian Reformed Church of Vancouver" MEMO "Chaplain and Refugee Support Mobilizer" and mailed to First CRC, 2670 Victoria Drive, Vancouver, BC. Please note that we are not involved in the Private Sponsorship of Refugees Program, and cannot facilitate the sponsorship of refugees from outside of Canada, as our focus is on the support and resettlement of those already here. If you are interested in Private Sponsorship, we encourage you to contact a Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH). You can find a list of SAHs here.
